Event scroller best practices
The event scroller shows a list of the most recent events on your system. Understanding exactly how it works will help you get the most out of it.
The Event Scroller in Qumulex allows you to dedicate a panel (or more than one) within the live view to show you the most recent events from a filtered list of devices. This is most commonly used to show events coming from devices such as Doors or Cameras in a live scrolling stream for monitoring.
Once the stream is running in live mode, you can mouse over it to pause. If the event has an associated camera/video, you will be able to playback the clip recorded, or show the live video from that camera directly from the scroller. Please note that there are a finite number of rows (over 200) that the scroller can cache. Once it reaches the limit, it will cycle out the oldest entries with the newest.
Below is a video and the steps to build an example Event Scroller for Doors.
- Navigate to the Live page within QxControl
- Expand the side menu and scroll down to click the Other Category
- Drag the Event Scroller (Beta) into the desired panel on the left
- Click Select Saved Filter and Create New
- You will then be sent to the Search page to build your filter. The logic in building an Event Scroller Filter is the same as doing a normal search.
- It will ask you to create a unique name for this filter (such as Door Events)
- Choose the type of events you want to see. Door Events, or Camera Events.
- If you simply choose Door Events, for example, your Event Scroller will show you every message that comes from every door within your scope. Most likely, you will want to add additional filters to ensure that the Scroller has only useful information by choosing which doors (or cameras) you want included, and perhaps only showing specific messages when they come through.
- In the video above, I chose to show Door activity, and then narrowed that to only when Access was Denied or Granted. This helps keep my Event Scroller from being spammed with messages I do not need to know about. You may choose different detail levels.
- Once you have adjusted your filter, you should click Search on the bottom left to ensure that the data you see in the search matches the kind of data you wish to see in your event scroller.
- If you are satisfied there, then click on the Filter button on the top right and find the named filter you added.
- Click the 3 dots menu to the right of that name and select Update
- You will now be able to navigate to live and select that filter from the dropdown!
