How do I Configure my Gateway before the site has internet installed?

The best way would be to stage the Qumulex Gateway in your office temporarily.  All the unit will need for configuration is a valid active internet connection via ethernet.

If, however, the unit is already at a customer site and there is no internet available there are a few options.

If your laptop has wifi and an ethernet connection (or an external ethernet adapter) you can simply share the wifi connection with the Qumulex Gateway.

First, connect to local wifi or mobile hotspot via your laptop.   Then connect the WAN port of the Qumulex Gateway to the Ethernet Port (or adapter) on your laptop.  Then complete the following steps:

  1. Go to the Network Connections menu. The easiest way to get there is by searching for “Network Connections” in the Windows Search box.

  2. Right-click on the active Wireless Internet connection and select Properties.

  3. Toggle “Allow other network users to connect” to On from the Sharing tab and select the relevant Ethernet port from the pulldown menu. Note that, if you have VPN software installed, you may see a lot of virtual Ethernet ports on your list and you’ll need to pick the proper physical one.

  4. Click OK on the above menu and it should automatically share the connection.  It may take up to 10 minutes for your Gateway to show green in the cloud and be available.

Alternately can use an off-the-shelf WiFi extender with Ethernet jacks built-in to connect directly to your phone's Mobile Hotspot (wifi).   This requires using a second piece of hardware that often plugs directly into an outlet and has network ports for direct ethernet connections to the Qumuelx Gateway Server.
One such device that we have used is the Netgear WiFi Range Extender EX2700.  This allows you to connect your Gateways WAN port to the Netgear's ethernet jack, and connect the extender's wifi to your Mobile Hotspot.  While not ideal for any true cloud storage, this is functional for assisting with setup in a site that may not have internet dropped in just yet.  Linked here are instructions specific to the above extender.  Other WiFi extenders should work, but the setup may be different: https://mywifiextlogn.com/netgear-ex2700-setup/
