Using Groups
Use Groups to organize physical access to Places
In QxControl, Groups are used for organizing access to physical locations, i.e. Doors.
- Groups are assigned Permissions, which means the People who are members of the Group can get access to a Place (and its children Places) on a defined Schedule.
- All Doors that provide access to that Place are subject to the Permission.
Note: Because Groups are only relevant to physical access control, it is recommended that only People who have access control credentials are included in Groups. There are alternate ways to manage access for People who are able to log in and use QxControl software.
To ensure visibility and control by Customers over who can access their Places, QxControl has the following limits:
- Access control credentials can only be assigned to People whose home place is at the Customer level or below.
- Note: If an integrator's technician needs access to a customer's place, simply create a Person (without a Role) within the customer's hierarchy and assign a credential. Credential uniqueness is only enforced within a customer, so the technician's same credential can be used for all customers at which access is required.
- Permissions, and the Groups to which they pertain, can only be created for Places at the Customer level or below.
Subject to a Customer's choice, Integrators may have visibility and configuration capability for their Customers; however, they can not create People or Permissions that give access to a Customer Place that is hidden from the Customer.
The how-to video below shows the steps to create Groups and Permissions.
